Noise!

There’s so much noise! I can’t focus! I can’t even write a word without anybody interrupting me!

In the classroom, It’s work time so anybody can talk. Wait did I say anybody? Oh I forgot to say anybody WORK TOGETHER! But no, just take advantage of that! To me, Writers need quiet and peace.

“ I should go in the hallway, it’s way to loud in here” I think. I get some thin sharpies ( I’m not a pen hogger! Wink, Wink!) and go in the hall! My best friend comes, Ok fine but DO NOT TALK TO ME! But no. Just keep talking, talking and talking.

A group of girls need to work together and film something for poetry. Ok it’s fine I get it but DO THE WORK THAT WAS DUE A FEW DAYS AGO INSTEAD OF CRACKING HORRIBLE & CHEESY JOKES! OH YOU GOTTA BE KIDDING ME!

Another person is coming out! Oh wait. He has a 39 clues book in his hand! He must want quiet and peace too, because he loves to read. Just like writers, readers need quiet and peace. But no! That was so stupid of me to say! Why would people want to be quiet the day I have  like 45 minutes to write in class. It’s like the noise is following me and when I find a room I can lock the door because the noise has to much power and that prevents me to lock the door. OMG! I L- O- V- E LOVE that line.

How we doin' over here?” asks Ms.Haseltine.
"Horrible," I BLURT OUT!
“Oh ok,”concerned and shocked Ms. Haseltine says, “What Happened?”

I explain to her my horrible situation. She asks me to show her my notebook and she saw my line about the noise. “That’s a PERFECT LINE!"

She gave me an advice that I will NEVER forget! I should write about the noise. Observe my surroundings and what I hear. Or how I feel about it. When we went to the library. I got special permission to write in the library.

This is what I wrote!

It’s like the noise is following me and when I find a room I can lock the door because the noise has too much power and that prevents me from locking the door.

I feel
Annoyed
Sad
Mad
HANGRY
Like stomping my foot
And shouting SHUT UP!

It’s like the noise is following me and when I find a room I can lock the door because the noise has too much power and that prevents me to lock the door.

The point of my story is to tell you, whenever you have a problem like me, just write it all down, take risks with the word, and be creative with it! Write a poem, write a song, you could even write a story! YOU MATTER

Hello my name is Siya and I am one of Ms. Haseltine’s sixth graders. This story was something like my day a few days ago. Wait a minute ! Did I say something like, I meant EXACTLY the same. I was inspired to write this story this story because every writer has this type of day. SOMEDAY. If you are in a writers block because of noise you can write about it because you are the boss of your own notebook. I hope you liked my story!

  1. I am also someone who needs a quiet place to write, Siya, so I understand the frustration you feel when noise insists on following you. I can tell you are one dedicated, smart, committed writer. Keep looking for those quiet places to write!

  2. Yes! I could not be more with you, Siya. I, too, really need a quiet space to write. If there is music, I will listen. If there is talking, I will listen. And I struggle to listen to myself when I am listening to everybody else! Thank you for sharing here and for making this clear. Some people may not share this need, but sometimes I wonder if quiet wouldn't benefit everyone a bit. We hear more. You have a powerful writing voice. "...take risks with the word..." Yes. Yes. You matter. xx
