Weird Messy Beautiful Awesome Art

This is me on Monday...
Monday’s not a fun day,
I wish that it was Friday,
cause, uh, I like Friday,
I just want some subway,
cause subway is the way.
Yesterday was Sunday,
and Sunday was okay,
this is me on Monday,
and I am not okay!

This pen is not like me,
I am very clean,
unlike this pen,
this pen is on my notebook,
this made me very shook.

So, we found this broken pen and decided to make some art. It was very messy. Basically, the pen was somehow attached to the cap of the pen and was leaking ink EVERYWHERE. And it totally didn't get on the table. But anyway…if there is any lesson to learn from this it is that weird messy thing beautiful awesome art ...that is a mess. Now you might be asking what does this have to do with notebooks? Well, I don't really know but… maybe if you don't know what to write about then just make a mess and write about that!

(This blog post is a mess just like the pen.)

Carter's Bio: Hello! I am a sixth-grader at BAM middle school and my favorite teacher, of course, is Ms. Haseltine. (I'm taking communications next year and she will be my teacher again, so that's how you know I'm not lying.)This year in Ms. Haseltine’s class has been AMAZING!!

Charlie’s Bio: Hello, I am a sixth grader from Brambleton Middle School, my English teacher is Ms. Haseltine of course and my favorite subject is history, BUT my second favorite is English. Ms. Haseltine is a great English teacher for I am taking communications next year. Sixth grade has been great.

  1. Thank you for this laugh today! I really needed it as our dog, Sage, ate a whole pound of butter yesterday (including the paper). You can only imagine the sickness-mess afterward, and now you have me thinking what-oh-what writing experience I can make from that in my notebook. Let's just say I was "very shook" too! Carter and Charlie - you're all the best for sharing here at my blog. I love having you and your colleagues taking over this space - thank you! xx

  3. I really like both of these poems and particularly like them paired together. Can I use these poems with the students and teachers I work with? I just love the idea of messy and using it when we talk about writing. Love the concept of thinking about messy and love the poems too. Thanks for this.
